The third two week medical training mission to Nizhny Novgorod helped save the lives of sixteen children. Eleven received open heart surgery from the visiting team, while five patients had their life threatening defects closed through endovascular procedures. The mission took place from May 14th through May 28th. The twelve member international medical team worked very closely with the local team to diagnose, operate on, and care for children suffering from treatable heart defects. The Nizhny Novgorod Cardiac Center administration and staff continue to be delighted with the progress of the missions. Since the last mission in June 2015, pediatric cardiac surgeons at the center have continued to successfully perform complex open heart surgeries on children in the region. During this mission, the joint teams performed the first ever Fontan surgery in the region.
