An international medical team from three different countries is again on the ground in Russia. This second mission is another step forward in bringing advanced cardiac care to children in Russia who are suffering from treatable heart defects.
The local team performed two open-heart surgeries on June 8th as the international team arrived and observed. The first full day of joint work began on June 9th. Both the local Russian team and the international team crowded into an examination room, where echocardiograms were performed. Pictured at left is Dr. Novick examining a young patient.
Diagnoses were discussed and a preliminary surgical schedule for the two week mission was set. The first joint surgery on Tuesday, June 9th was successful and the child is recovering in the intensive care unit. Two more complex open-heart surgeries are scheduled for today.
