Three year old Taisia and her mother, Anastasia, and nine year old Alexandra and her mother, Elena arrived in New York this evening. Russian Gift of Life volunteer Faina Fuji and Russian Gift of Life Board Member Peter Tymus were on hand to meet them at JFK International Airport. Despite their age difference, the two girls have become fast friends.
Mothers and daughters are very tired from the ten hour flight, but have settled in to Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, their home away from home. This was the first time any of them have been on an airline, much less a transatlantic flight. The families found it both scary and exciting. Little Taisia described how the plane took off with a big whoosh! Alexandra's mom recalls how unsettling it was to feel the plane's wheels touch down and make contact with the pavement.
Jet lag hasn't slowed either of the girls down as they explored Ronald McDonald House of Long Island this evening. Alexandra discovered the piano, and entertained everyone with some well rehearsed tunes. The girls' first appointment at Saint Francis Hospital is on Tuesday.
