Gift of Life Board member Lee Robbins brought Anastasia, Sofia and their mothers to Saint Francis Hospital this morning for a medical evaluation. Executive Director Michael Yurieff served as interpreter. Dr. Levchuck's expert staff performed an electrocardiogram to confirm the girls' diagnoses. Dr. Levchuck examined little Sofia and Anastasia and confirmed plans for their surgery in October.
Though from the same region in Russia, neither family knew each other until fate brought them together on the Gift of Life program. The little girls are now fast friends and keep each other company at Ronald McDonald House of Long Island while awaiting their life-saving surgery. Sofia tires easily, while Anastasia is, in her mother Elena's words "an energizer bunny." No one would know that the two little girls have heart defects that could cut their lives short. Thanks to all those who support the life-saving mission of Russian Gift of Life USA, these two girls are among the lucky ones.
