Alina, who turns nine next week, and Nikita, who turns sixteen in April, underwent surgery today at Saint Francis Hospital. Twice today, Dr. Sean Levchuck came from the operating room to the
visitor's lounge. He told Alina's mother that everything had
gone well and that Alina's PDA (patent ductus arteriosus) has been
closed for good. Later he came out to tell Nikita's mother that his heart defect was also now gone forever. Both mothers were very relieved.
Alina will be kept overnight for observation and discharged tomorrow. Nikita is going home tonight.
Special thanks to Angela Lostritto, Irina Davidson, and Witaly
Jakowlew for volunteering at the hospital today. Alina and Nikita's families are very
grateful for all the support.
