One-Year-Old Lera Has A Heart Defect. Heart Surgery Can Save Her Life. Please Help.

"My husband is self-employed as a plumber and makes 7,500 rubles a month (250USD). I am a stay at home mom taking care of my child. We live at my grandmother's. My daughter sees cardiologists every four months, and every time with hope we look into the eyes of the doctors and ask the same question: 'Has the defect closed? Or at least decreased?' Lera is kept on various drugs for the heart, but is still short of breath and her lips are blue. During the last check up, we were told that the defect not only has not closed, but has increased to 7 mm. Lera started walking which puts extra strain on her heart. Doctors believe surgery is now inevitable, and the sooner the better. Specialists at the Tomsk Cardiac Center say that with the help of modern medical technology, they can close the defect without cutting open Lera's chest. This would be a dream come true for us! I beg you, please help us pay for such an operation! My husband and I would not be able to accumulate the required amount even over many years, and we have no time to lose."
Yelena Parfenova, Udmurtia.

Senior Fellow of the Tomsk Institute of Cardiology of RAMS Eugene Krivoshchekov:

"It is best to close the atrial septal defect endovascular. Minimal risk, the prognosis is favorable. Lera will get stronger and be healthy."

Lera was successfully operated at the Tomsk Cardiac Center in Siberia on September 6, 2010.

Lera's parents Lera, Elena and Andrei would like to thank everyone for their help.
