Please Help Save Three Year Old Misha.
Misha is three years old.
He was born with heart disease.
He urgently needs open-heart surgery to
correct a very complex, life threatening heart defect.
American doctors give him a 75% chance of surviving the surgery.
The longer Misha waits, the worse his chances will get.

Russian Gift of Life USA is attempting to have Misha placed at one of the pediatric cardiac centers
that we work with both in the United States and in Russia. We don't yet know who will accept him,
or what it will cost, but we do know that he will have to travel from his hometown of Voronezh
in order to get the medical care he needs. We met Misha in March of this year
while conducting our second medical mission to the Voronezh Regional Hospital.

He was diagnosed at birth and will require
a series of staged open-heart procedures to
reconfigure his heart and circulatory system.
Currently Misha has no options where he lives
in the Voronezh Region. Russian Gift of Life USA is helping to fund medical missions
to his local hospital to train the surgeons, cardiologists, nurses,
and other medical personnel to care for children like him.
But this project is long term.
Misha needs help now.

Misha's mother Nadezhda appeals in her native Russian language to all of us to help her son.
(Transcript in English follows the video).

"My name is Litvinova, Nadezhda. I am twenty-six years old.
I have a son, Misha, who is three years old. At five months of age,
we received a terrifying diagnosis -
a complex heart defect, which unfortunately in our
Russian hospitals may be successfully corrected, but the time
after surgery in intensive care will be very complicated and
it's not likely my child will survive. We are appealing to
your foundation with a cry for help. We'd like to take
our child overseas, to a hospital overseas
with the goal of curing our son. We want
the foundation to make our dream come true.
We want our son to live!"

- Nadezhda Litvinova, Voronezh Russia

On September 17, 2014 Misha was successfully operated by Dr. William Novick in Kharkov, Ukraine. He spent several weeks in recovery both in Ukraine, and then in Russia.

In late October 2014, Misha has been discharged from the hospital, but is being kept on oxygen at home.

In November 2014, an American medical team examined Misha in his hometown of Voronezh. He is doing very well, but will need a third and final operation in 2015.
