Three-Year-Old Semeon Has A Heart Defect. Open Heart Surgery Can Save His Life. Please Help.

Semeon is a three-year-old suffering from heart disease. He needs open heart surgery to correct a complex heart defect - Tetralogy of Fallot. This condition is actually four related defects of the heart and its major blood vessels:

1. a ventricular septal defect (a hole between the right and left ventricles)
2. a narrowing of the pulmonary outflow tract (the valve and artery that connect the heart with the lungs)
3. Overriding aorta (the artery that carries oxygen-rich blood to the body) is shifted over the right ventricle and ventricular septal defect, instead of coming out only from the left ventricle
4. a thickened muscular wall of the right ventricle known as right ventricular hypertrophy.

Without the surgery he will not likely live very long.

Semeon's mother made the long journey from Tolyatti, Russia with him.

Semeon was successfully operated at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota on July 20, 2011.
